My Leadership Journey: Expanding Massachusetts’ Safety Net Hospital System

As 2024 comes to a close, I want to commemorate a major milestone and one of the highlights of my year: the friendly acquisition of Holy Family Hospitals by Lawrence General Hospital. We saved these hospitals from closing, and we are paving the way for a new and revitalized healthcare system in the Merrimack Valley.  This is a story of resilience, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our communities. I am honored to serve as board chair of Lawrence General Hospital, and I couldn’t be more proud!

I am deeply grateful for the incredible effort by the Lawrence General board and leadership team in realizing this vision. I am also grateful to all of the elected officials, and especially the Healey-Driscoll administration, who have supported our vision and provided the needed investment. The work it took to bring this dream to life—transitioning two hospitals under challenging circumstances—has been nothing short of phenomenal. It inspires me to keep going.

Looking ahead to 2025, I’m excited to help shape the future of this expanded system and to help redefine what safety-net hospitals can achieve. With new opportunities to focus on health equity, centers of excellence, and integrated care, I’m confident we will continue to prioritize our mission of serving every patient with dignity and compassion.

The Boston Globe captured this moment beautifully, and I’m happy to share their article as a way of celebrating this achievement. I invite you to read more about our journey here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/11/22/business/lawrence-general-holy-family-hospital-steward/
